I love being on the water…

I can definitely say that I fell in love with the sea at a very early age. For me the sea carries such a sense of romance and beauty which never fails to amaze me.

I started sailing at the age of 7 and I quickly learnt the ropes and wanted to learn how to sail bigger boats, and faster boats very soon after.

When I was only 10, my Dad started running a boat building business and over the next few years I learnt such a huge amount about the design and construction of yachts.

When I was 14 I wanted to sail across the Atlantic Ocean and so when the opportunity came up to do it, I grasped it with both hands and dived into the deep end at the start of my first major project.

I set off from Gibraltar and 6 weeks later arrived at the Caribbean island of Antigua. I soon wanted to do something bigger and better.

I wanted to become the youngest person to sail single-handed around the world.

I spent months looking for sponsorship and once I had secured the amount I needed, I chartered myself an Open 50 racing yacht. The sailing equivalent of a Ferrari! The yacht spent two months being prepared for the trip in docks in France and the UK.

The trip covered approximately 30,000 nautical miles (45,000 km), taking me across the equator and every single line of longitude on the earth’s surface. The journey was completed under sail by wind and muscle power alone.

On the 27th August I became the youngest person in the world to sail single-handed around the globe. This has been certified by Guinness World Records. Wow what an incredible feeling!
